The Internet fraudster on Monday, April 8, 2025 handed himself over to Acei Effam Okim, acting district director of the Benin District Bureau of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, assistant commander of the EFCC.
The 28-year-old fraudster from the Odo Local Government Area in the Odo Local Government Area explained that he handed in because he did not want to continue the fraud due to fear of being arrested by the commission’s operators, the EFCC said in a statement released today on April 11.
“I reported myself because I wanted to stop and turn into new leaves,” he said.
The agency said that before surrender, fraudsters were experts in romantic scam variants of internet fraud.
He said: “I told the victims that I am from China and that I am working as a doctor in a country of war. My victims are foreigners and I cheated on relationships. I communicated with them in Chinese using mobile app translation. I claimed to love them how beautiful and attractive it is.”
