- A Nigerian woman has drawn attention to the cleanliness situation in Rwanda after witnessing Rwandan citizens actively cleaning their streets.
- Social media users reacted by praising Rwanda’s strict environmental policies and comparing them to Nigeria.

A Nigerian woman sparked online discussion after she expressed surprise when she saw Rwandans actively cleaning and maintaining streets during a visit to the East African country, reinforcing Rwanda’s reputation as the cleanest country in Africa.
Although Rwanda does not always rank among the best globally in terms of environmental performance, it is widely regarded as the cleanest country in Africa, with cities such as Kigali often cited as among the neatest urban centers on the continent.
Cleanliness in the country is largely driven by Umuganda, a mandatory monthly community service event in which citizens aged 18 to 65 participate in street cleaning and local maintenance. Rwanda also banned the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags in 2008 and imposed severe penalties for littering.
Additionally, Kigali and other cities celebrate car-free days twice a month to reduce pollution, while authorities closely monitor compliance with environmental regulations.
The woman’s observation sparked reactions on social media, with many users comparing Rwandan standards to those in Nigeria.
