Popular Nigerian musician Alban Unoma Nwapa has been punished for excluding the Federal Capital Territory Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, with Rivers Governor Sim Fubara, his agent and member of parliament.
Naija News The report said the political crisis in Rivers State caused Tinob to declare a state of emergency and suspended Forbala for six months.
Nwapa’s news reporter in Abuja said Tinubu should call Wike to order rather than declare a state of emergency.
NWAPA has dominated the radio waves in the late 1990s with its unique music brand and lamented Tinubu’s lack of constitutional power to suspend Fubara and its agents.
He also pointed out the financial impact of declaring a state of emergency, stressing that it would waste taxpayers’ money.
The singer added that Tinob’s actions set a bad precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.
He said “And consider this person to be Fubara, democratically elected by the people, and the other person is just a minister, with no electoral value in his own identity with about 2 million eligible voters or more!
“What’s annoying is that he hasn’t let him share a part of the punishment imposed on Forbala.
“In fact, no one mentioned his name. The Supreme Court did not mention his name, the Senate did not mention his name, the President did not mention his name, no one mentioned his name! It’s really sad.
“Oh, my answer to this is simple, the president should have called Vick instead of declaring a state of emergency in the river.
“It’s wise to call the order because he is the reason we fall into the whole chaos first! The emergency on the river completely destroys the democratic structure of the country. It mocks the entire democratic environment.
“Even if you don’t have constitutional powers, you suspend the governor and his agents.
“The State Capitol will also cease operations within the next six months?
“Or, are they not going to pay the new administrator? Does he have no staff and security details of his own?
“The nearly 10,000 soldiers who are engaged in special duties will also receive a large amount of payment. There are a lot of financial impacts involved, and all the expenses?
“Of course, taxpayer money! So, calling Vick to order is much cheaper than taking an illogical emergency decision. But, even let’s put the meaning of the cost aside, the huge damage it does to the democratic setup of the river country is painful. It’s annoying. It will bring them back from this setback for a while.
“It’s like setting a bad precedent because now it means that all other governors should expect anything to happen anytime, anywhere, as well.
“One morning, the president can wake up and decide that he no longer likes the face of a particular governor and then pause his attitude! Are we in the kind of country we are now?
“And this National Assembly na wa! This voice votes, it’s crazy! Yes, I know they’ve done a lot of crazy things, but this shocked me. It shocked me.
“We know they did a lot of unthinkable things, but it is certain that 2/3 of the voice vote is a daylight robbery.
“It shocked me, it surprised me, they had the boldest way to do it. A state with millions of voters who qualify but they did this type of thing?
“Then they don’t even care if there are any consequences for what they do. Voice voting is the part I don’t understand, how do you determine 2/3 of 2/3 by voice voting? It’s crazy.”
