On Wednesday, February 5, the Russian government marked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s demand for nuclear weapons “bordered with madness.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this while talking to a reporter in the Russian capital Moscow. He criticized the idea that sufficient number of nuclear weapons should be provided to stop Russia.
“In general, this kind of speech and speech is a crazy border. “There is a regime that is non-proliferation,” Peskov said.
In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan late Tuesday, Zelenskyy said that if the NATO membership process in Ukraine takes too long, Kiev should be provided with nuclear weapons to ensure its safety.
The 47-year-old politician questioned what assurances would be Ukraine if NATO joins is still uncertain, saying: “Will they provide us with nuclear weapons? Let them give us nuclear weapons.”
“They will give us enough missiles to stop Russia, do I doubt it? But this (providing nuclear weapons) will help,” he added.
Zelenskyy also said he would agree to negotiate with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, which would end the war only if some people were present.
Peskov’s reaction said that Ukraine’s preparation for negotiations should be based on something specific, not just words.
“Ready must be based on something; it cannot be based on legislative bans on such negotiations…so, for now, it is nothing more than empty talk,” Peskov added.
