Nigerian football legend Austin’Jay Jay’Okocha supports Super Eagles to turn things around and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup – but only if they take things into their own hands.
Despite the tough start of the qualifiers, Okocha believes there is a way forward – but that will not help.
The Super Hawks’ victory over Rwanda gave fans a glimmer of hope, but stumbled again against Zimbabwe with a frustrating 1-1. This result puts Nigeria down to fourth place in their group, 6 points behind South Africa.
Despite this, Okocha, who once represented Nigeria in three World Cups, has not counted the boys.
“If we want to give ourselves any chance to qualify, we have to consider winning all the remaining games,” he told Idiski Times.
“Bafana Bafana is the number one in the group – it will be a tough game, but I believe we can go there and win. If we want to qualify, that’s the game we need to win.”
