Vice President JD Vance responded after President Donald Trump refused to fully recognize him as his successor.
Trump spoke with Fox News host Bret Baier and said he was not ready to support Vance in his 2028 presidential election.
But he added: “No, but he is very capable.”
When asked in an interview with the Daily Mail about Trump’s remarks, Vance laughed.
“I think what he said was what he should say, that is: “It’s too early,” he replied.
Vance said his only focus at the moment is “the cause of the American people,” not politics.
He added: “Of course there will be time to focus on politics – [like] Medium term [in November 2026] – So let’s do a good job and then worry about the midterm.
“We will then worry about presidential politics in due time.”
