Former Sue Eagles captain and Chelsea player John Obi Mikel is the latest voice to criticize Jammie Carragher since he commented on the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Nigerian expressed his displeasure with his podcast, whose comments to Jammie Carragher downplay the value of AFCON in the context. The British international said Mohamed Salah won the championship under impressive circumstances this season, despite Egypt not being able to compete in the top-tier matches.
What does Jammie Carragher have to say about AFCON?
The problem, he said, is that Mohamed Salah has no chance to win the Ballon d’OR compared to the players who play in top games.
“I think the problem is that he (Salah) is with Egypt, he may not be in a big game, or there may be a big chance of winning, I think it’s a Champions League or a major tournament. In Mormally, standing out in it, like Vini Jr and (Kylian) Mbappe, it’s a realistic Madrid, it’s a good champion and certainly a former runner.”
What did John Mikel Obi say to Carragher?
Mikel Obi didn’t waste time exploding Carragher, saying the former Liverpool player didn’t win any victory in England so he didn’t have business to lower AFCON.
“It’s so disrespectful to his words, it’s from someone who has never won any international competition with England. His remarks are absolutely wrong. I hope he will come out to apologize on a large scale because he owe people around the world apologies. [It was] I don’t know how to disrespect such a great game. ”
He continues
“The smirk on his face, the arrogant f***ing smirk on his face to dismiss… That smirk on his face is absolutely what tipped me off. You have people trying to correct you and you’re coming out and attacking absolutely everyone else and discrediting this wonderful tournament. The guy says so many things on TV, never won the Premier League, analyses teams and tells them you have to win the Premier League. You never won it, you don’t know what it takes to win the f***ing Premier League, you don’t know what it takes to win with your national team. You can’t discredit such a wonderful, wonderful tournament. People in Africa die for the Africa Cup of Nations. I am f***ing angry, I am f***ing angry, he spent so many years playing for Liverpool, he didn’t win the f***ing Premier League. He sits there week in, week out, telling and teaching people trying to tell people how to win the Premier League. You haven’t won it. Africans watch you on the weekend and you sit there, open your mouth and discredit the whole f***ing African continent, saying your African Nations tournament is s***.那没有价值,因为它不是欧元或美洲杯。 He can lose it. We know that in Africa we bring to the Premier League. If you won the euro with England, I might understand, if you won a big game with England, I might understand. You won the F*** with the UK. fall. Are you trying to discredit the matches I won, bleeding and tears?
Despite Carragher’s comments, Mohamed Salah is still competing for his impressive form for Liverpool to win the award. Obi won the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and won the runner-up twice.
