Qatar has implemented new visa rules to prevent unmarried Nigerian men from obtaining tourist or transit visas, citing repeated outdated visits by travelers.
The Qatar Ministry of Interior announced that tourism and transit visas are now only available to women or families. Male applicants are eligible for these visas only if they travel with their families.
Under the revised regulations, all applicants must provide a confirmed return ticket and proof of verified hotel reservations for processing. In addition, only accommodation in five-star hotels can meet the visa approval requirements.
The department explained that “Due to recent past due cases, tourist visas and transit visas will now require booked return transfers and confirmed hotel accommodation. Only female travelers or families can accept applications. Unaccompanied male travelers are no longer eligible. Visa approval will only consider five-star hotel reservations.”
These new rules apply to new applications and applications in the approved pipeline, which means that Nigerians currently awaiting visa decisions will also be affected.
