Kamala Harris has severely criticized DC law firms, especially those who hired husband Doug Emhoff, who has provided more than $100 million in unpaid legal services to President Trump’s administration.
In a speech at the Leading Women’s Definition Summit, Harris appeared to target Willkie Farr & Gallagher, the company that Emhoff works, just days after the company agreed to provide unpaid legal work during Trump’s tenure and beyond.
Harris spoke about the atmosphere of fear she mentioned and said, “In our country, people are always terrifying. I understand. But we see people keep quiet.” She continued, “We see organizations keep quiet. We see people who are succumbing to obvious unconstitutional threats.”
Although Harris did not explicitly name Emhoff’s law firm, the timing of her speech strongly suggests that she was referring to Wilkie Fal and Gallagher. Sources close to the situation indicated that Emhoff expressed his disagreement with the company’s decision to reach a deal with the Trump administration, urging its leaders to oppose the issue.
The report also details how the Trump administration uses executive orders to link law firms seen as supporting its political rivals, including limiting their access to federal buildings, thereby effectively damaging its business. Willkie Farr & Gallagher is one of several companies that choose to interact with Trump rather than face this impact.
President Trump said Doug Emhoff’s company will help veterans, Venus families, law enforcement and first responders while avoiding the “dei” efforts, a reference for diversity, equity and inclusion programs. This raises questions in light of his wife’s public condemnation of his actions.
