Kenya Football Federation suspends goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over protest claims
Matasi was suspended for 90 days in all football activities, while authorities investigated the game’s claims.
The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) announced the news on Thursday night, confirming the formal investigation into the allegations against Kenyan Premier League stars began.
Viral video spark matching problem
When the video surfaced online, the controversy began, and Matasi allegedly discussed ways to influence matching results.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who played for Kakamega Homeboyz, has been a key player in the Kenyan national team, earning 26 blocks.
His 4-1 victory over Cameroon in Kenya also attracted attention in the AFCON 2024 qualifiers, as some goals seem to be questionable.
FKF and FIFA promise a fair and transparent investigation
In response to the allegations, the FKF issued a statement highlighting its commitment to fair competition and soccer integrity.
Federal assured fans and stakeholders that the investigation will be thoroughly transparent, conducted in partnership with FIFA, CAF and other relevant organizations.
The federal government stated as follows:
“The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) realized that videos involved goalkeeper Patrick Matasi circulated online have raised concerns about possible matches.”

“We take football integrity seriously and have conducted formal investigations with FIFA, CAF and other partners. FKF’s zero tolerance policy for game manipulation and is committed to protecting the credibility of our game.” Added FKF.
The federal government conducts further: “This investigation will follow FKF’s anti-match manipulation regulations and FIFA guidelines to ensure a fair and detailed review. The rights of players and their clubs will be respected and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.”
“We encourage anyone with reliable information to assist this investigation. All reports will be processed in secret. Information can be passed through [email protected]. ”
“As the investigation progresses, further updates will be shared.”
FKF assured the public that it will take all necessary steps to protect the integrity of Kenyan football and ensure fair play in the league.
