Kenyan goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has suspended a temporary suspension of all football activities in the country for 90 days in an investigation into the game manipulation allegations.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) made a decision hours after the governing body announced an investigation into the 37-year-old.
The video posted online seems to show that the case emerged after the goalkeeper agreed to a deal to affect the results of the game.
Matasi, 37, played for Kenyan Premier League club Kakamega Homeboyz, who played 26 times for Kenya and started with a 4-1 victory over Cameroon in October, a match that was a group stage eligible for this year’s match.
Some of the goals recognized have attracted people’s attention.
Kenya Football Federation issued a statement on Thursday: “The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) knows that the video circulating online involves goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, which raises concerns about possible game operations.
FKF adheres to the integrity of football and conducts a formal investigation in cooperation with FIFA, CAF and other relevant authorities. We reaffirm our zero tolerance policy for game operations and are committed to protecting the credibility of our game.
“This investigation will comply with FKF’s anti-match operational regulations and FIFA guidelines to ensure a fair, transparent and thorough process. The rights of the players and their clubs will be respected and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
“We encourage anyone with reliable information to assist in this investigation. All reports will be handled with strict confidentiality. Information can be passed [email protected].
“The FKF will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
