The Southwest State Governors Forum, chaired by its Chairman and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will include Governors Seyi (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyeebanji (Ekiti), Dash Abiodun (Ogun), Dash Abiodun (Ogun) ), Dash Abiodun (ogun) summoned Babajide Sanwo-Olu and brought it together. and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
After the closed-door meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu proposed an 11-point communiqué, summarizing the key resolutions reached by the forum.
Key resolutions of the meeting:
1. President Tinob’s recognition
The forum commends the government’s economic reforms, especially the stable supply of petroleum products and exchange rates. They urge Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to strengthen the economy.
2. Support student loan programs
The governor praised the Nigerian education loan fund Nelfund for successfully implementing the student loan program, which benefits students in the region. They encourage eligible students to use the program for higher education and vocational training.
3. Congratulations to Governor Ondo
The forum congratulates Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his victory in the Ondo State Gubernatorial election held on November 16, 2024.
4. Commitment to regional security and peace
The forum acknowledged the efforts of the Southwest Governor in maintaining peace and security, especially during the festivals, and urged continuous efforts to promote regional stability.
5. Strongly condemn ISWAP activities
The governor condemned the presence and activities of ISWAP in parts of the southwest and urged security agencies to strengthen vigilance and cooperation with local security clothing to neutralize threats.
6. Establish a joint security monitoring team
The forum is determined to establish a joint security surveillance team in the region. The initiative will include:
– Deploy advanced surveillance technologies, including aviation monitoring.
– Strengthened cooperation between national security agencies, local security networks and federal authorities.
7. Southwest Development Committee, SWDC, Headquarters
The forum praised the federal government and the Senate for establishing the SWDC and agreed to establish its headquarters in the Cocoa Building in Ibadan, Oyo.
8. Support ODU’A Investment Company
The forum recognizes the contribution of ODU’A Investment Company Limited in the management of joint regional assets. They praised:
– Reconstruction of Prime Minister Hotel Ibadan and proposed reconstruction of Lagos Airport Hotel.
– The company’s investment plans in key economic sectors to drive sustainable growth.
9. Food security measures
The Governor recognized the need to curb food inflation and agreed to cooperate in developing policies to ensure food security in the region.
10. Measures to control inflation of food prices
Worried about artificial price inflation for middlemen, the forum decided:
– Establish a national food inflation joint monitoring team.
– Establish a polymerization center/food center to promote interstate food distribution and stabilize prices.
11. Comments from the Dawn Committee
The forum praised West Nigeria, Dawn’s development agenda, and the Commission’s performance in the past year. They urged it to continue working with the Southwest’s Agricultural Commissioner for Industrialization and Infrastructure Development.
