Trump first announced his appeal to journalists and pointed out that “a lot of work” has been done between the United States and Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov then confirmed the planned dialogue and told reporters: “There is indeed such a dialogue.” However, he declined to comment on the specific topics to be discussed.
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow last week to introduce details of the U.S.-Ukraine ceasefire plan, which includes a proposed 30-day hostilities.
Putin was open to the ceasefire proposal, but noted that there were “serious issues” about how to implement it, which he planned to discuss directly with Trump.
The planned call has intensified amid global attention to the ongoing diplomatic moves between the Ukrainian war and the world’s major powers.
