Nuclear Agreement: Does the Kremlin support our directness? Iran talks to prevent war

The Kremlin expressed support for Iran’s direct and indirect negotiations with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program, thus seeing it as an opportunity to eliminate tensions between the two countries.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated Russia’s commitment to diplomatic and political resolutions, speaking on a phone call with reporters.

“We know that some direct and indirect links are planned in Oman. Of course, this can only be welcomed because it may lead to a decrease in tensions around Iran,” Peskov said.

Iranian state media reported that the U.S.-Iran discussion is scheduled to be held in Oman on April 12.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the two countries are preparing for direct negotiations. However, the Iranian Foreign Minister clarified that the talks conducted through mediators would be indirect.

Trump has been expressing his willingness to reach a deal on his long-standing nuclear program, while warning of potential military operations if no deal is reached.

Both Moscow and Tehran have deepened diplomatic and military cooperation since Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine in February 2022. Russia has used Iran-made drones in its operations to target Ukraine’s military and infrastructure targets.

Russia has previously proposed as a mediator to help promote negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
