A worker cruelly for his employer, Mrs. Adelugba, 60, was a machete in the Láòs Park, a settlement behind the Laje camp in the western local government area of Endo, Ondo state.
According to a source speaking with the Endo State government publication, the deceased was a well-known farmer with three farms in the area. She had only one daughter and her husband lived in Abuja.
Recently, Mrs. Adegba completed her own house in Miracle Land in Ondo FFF. She hired a worker who lived with her in Láòsò to assist in the farm work.
Sources revealed that sometime last week, workers stole the kora nuts from one of the farms without Mrs. Adegba’s permission.
When face to face, he begged her not to expose him, as the tradition of the village shows that anyone who is stolen will be deported.
He promised to either pay for the stolen corras or deduct the fees from wages at the end of the year, a compromise that women accepted.
However, at a shocking turn of events on Saturday, workers monitored Mrs. Adegba’s movement to her farm and attacked her with a machete. He then covered her body with leaves and palm leaves and fled to the village.
Police sources confirmed that the suspect was initially detained at the Fagun Police Department and then transferred to the National Intelligence Service (SIB), where Akure conducted further investigations.
The family of the deceased was directed to visit police headquarters on Wednesday to obtain the necessary permission for their funeral.
If they get permission earlier in the day, she will rest on the same day; otherwise, the funeral will be postponed until Thursday.
The Ondo State Police Department has confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation is underway.
