The Labor (LP) caucus in the House described the removal of Julius Abure as the party’s president as a key turning point in stability and reform within the party.
Naija News The report said the ruling overturned an earlier court of appeals ruling after the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, recognizing ABURE as chairman, which lawmakers called the judgment a necessary step to restore the order.
In a statement issued on April 4, signed by the core group leaders Afam Victor Ogenelegislators stressed that the judgment was a lesson for political leaders who had a high influence in democratic institutions and were intended to serve the people.
Ogene praised the Supreme Court’s corporate and decisive ruling, noting that it provided a new beginning for Labour, which has recently struggled with internal disputes.
He further noted that the party’s National Career Council (NCC) is under the leadership of former Finance Minister Senator Esther Nenadi Usmanstakeholder meetings are expected to be called in the coming week to map the future direction of the party.
“Under the clear verdict, Labour will quickly implement the necessary mechanisms to restore internal peace and bring the party back on track to make the party feasibility of its viability to future elections and its commitment to leadership prioritizes interests and benefits.
“In fact, by next week, we expect the NCC National Careers Commission, led by respected former Finance Minister Esther Nenadi Usman, to convene an all-inclusive stakeholder meeting to map the way forward.,” Ogene said.
Reflecting on the leadership crisis, Ogene pointed out that this could be avoided if Abure and his team listened to the concerns raised by party stakeholders.
Instead, their refusal to pay attention to warnings and accept inclusion, he believes, leads to unnecessary conflict.
“In March 2024, LP Reps called for postponement of the party’s national congress, originally scheduled to be held at the end of the month, for further consultations based on the party’s lingering leadership small-scale enterprises.,” Ogene said.
He added that despite prudence, the party’s leaders continued to plan, dismissing the concerns of the caucus members and even threatening the prospect of re-election in 2027.
“But instead of paying attention to this patriotic appeal, the party leaders continued to release opposition to them, abused them in the media, and threatened to reject their party votes for reelection in 2027. Not only is this insensitive, but the only concern for the caucus is peace, solidarity, unity, sustainability and partisan attention,,” Ogene said.
He also lamented that this instability has led to the loss of six core team members, a situation that could have been prevented by better leadership.
