The Lagos State Government announced the temporary closure of the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (Inbound Terminal/CMS Route) for emergency repairs, which will last for two months, from Wednesday, March 19 to Monday, May 26, 2025.
In a statement issued on Sunday, March 16, state transport commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi outlined the details of the closure. He said that during the repair period, the road sections from the National Open University of Nigeria (noun) to Bonny Camp Bridge to Independent Bridge will not be subject to closure by vehicle traffic.
Additionally, motorists are not able to obtain the Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge Service Lane Entrance Independent Bridge. However, the service lanes from Ahmadu Bello to Ozumba Mbadiwe will continue to be open to traffic.
Motorists who arrive at Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello are advised to use the Akin Adesola street at the entrance to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, head to Falomo Roundabout, and then connect Obafemi Awolowo Road to Access Ring Road. For those heading to the Third Continental Bridge, the recommended route is through the entrance to Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and then Ring Road.
Motorists heading to Inner Marina and CMS will also be transferred to Akin Adesola Street, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue entrance, and have contacts with Falomo Roundabout, Obafemi Awolowo Road and JK Randle Road/King George v Road.
The Commissioner assured Lagos people that the Lagos State Traffic Authority (Lastma) will actively manage traffic along affected routes throughout the repair period.
