Police, led by CSP Agatha Eze, the Lagos State Police Command of the IDIMU department, arrested a driver, Tayo Arowolo, who was allegedly declared Maria in the Idimu area of the state, who was allegedly Maria.
Investigative journalist Deji Lambo revealed this in his report on Friday, March 7, 2025, saying that Arowolo, his girlfriend, Adejoke and the victim decided to teach her homework to a minor.
During the practice, his girlfriend walked out of the apartment to attend some tasks, and in the coaching process, the 33-year-old driver said he observed that she didn’t understand that she was teaching.
Arowolo, angry at the development, said he defeated the six-year-old with a belt and slippers, adding that she was injured in the attack.
“I was arrested because I defeated Maria, a six-year-old girl who lived with me. Maria was not my biological child. She was the last birth of my wife’s family. We went to the village of Ecre, Oxen and took her to Lagos state,” Alovolo said.
“I was teaching her the tasks she got from school, but when she didn’t understand what I was teaching her, I got angry and started beating her. I never knew I was hurting her. This is the belt and slippers I had beaten her once.
“The next day, I realized she was injured and when I saw the injury, I felt sad and quickly bought drugs for her. Police arrested me yesterday.”
Alovolo said his pregnant girlfriend was not involved in the attack, adding that he regretted his actions.
“This is not the first time I’ve helped her with homework, and whenever I teach her and she doesn’t get her homework, I help her get the job done quickly so I can get out. But that day, I didn’t get out, so when she doesn’t get me teaching her and beating her, I get angry.”
“When I saw the effects of the harm she suffered, I was sorry that I would never do it again. I don’t have children yet, but my girlfriend is pregnant with my eldest son.”
When asked if he would become Maria’s biological child, Alovolo remained speechless.
