Stanley Alieke, a legal practitioner and former lawyer for former Speed Darlington, has opposed the death penalty of Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late evangelical artist Osinachi Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu was reportedly sentenced to death for the death of Osinachi, who died in 2022, due to injuries related to domestic violence.

Alieke responded to the ruling, in which case the death penalty should be abolished, suggesting that life imprisonment is a more humane option.

He stressed the emotional loss that the execution could have caused to the couple’s children, who have suffered from the mother’s loss.

“Although I am a guilty person, I am a firm advocate of not judgement; the singer’s osinachi case should be the reason for the removal of the de@th sentence,” Alieke wrote on Instagram. “For the sake of the children, they have lost their moms, which is also cruel to the children.

In acknowledging public opinion, Arik pointed out that some people might say that if a father committed such a crime, the child would be better. However, he insists that the kids may be different.

“I know some of you will say that children are better than orphans, not to have a thousand dads, but I believe that children will beg for different things. Life imprisonment should be sentenced so that children can visit him in prison. As long as they miss him.

Alieke’s position has sparked online conversations about the status of the death penalty in domestic violence cases and the long-term impact of such a ruling on the children left behind.
