NYSC secures N77,000 allowances for legion members starting in March.
The DG of the program shows that NYSC is committed to the welfare of legion members.
Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), assured members of the corps that the N77,000 pledge promised by the federal government will take effect from March.
This was known at an interactive meeting of Corps members at Wuse and Garki NYSC regional offices in Abuja on Thursday.
DG began saying the program is committed to ensuring the welfare of legion members and ensuring that the government is committed to fulfilling its words and deeds.
He also further appreciated the patience shown by the Legion members during the transition period and encouraged them to continue to assume their responsibilities.

In a statement signed by the Director of Agent Information and Public Relations, media-available Caroline Embu said the plan will take effect from March and all Corp members will receive the agreed N77,000 instead of N33,000.
“Effective from March, you will receive a sum of 70,000 naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record keeping and L can assure you that you will pay.
Recall that the approval of the allowance increase was initially awarded in September 2024, when the National Salary, Income and Salary Commission issued a letter in September 2024 that approved the increase of the monthly allowance for Corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, with the expected implementation of the February 2025 date.
However, there has been administrative delays as Legion members continue to receive 33,000 old allowances. This has led to concerns and appeals from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The federal government also said it allocated 4.3307 billion guilds to New York City in its 2025 budget, of which 72.9 billion guilds were specifically adapted to the stakes for legion members, but nothing could be implemented to increase.
With DG’s assurance, Legion members should expect that the March allowance will be provided at a reasonable amount of N77,000.
Although, due to the loss of confidence in the government, there has been a different response to this announcement by DG, from national concerns raised by Viral Legion member Raye, who called on the government to live with the poor people as a member of the Legion, it is possible that the government may fulfill its promise this time.
