    List of senators suspended since 1999

    The tenth Senate, led by Godswill Akpabio, suspended the MP representing Kogi Central Senate District on Thursday, representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan, who lasted for six months due to alleged misconduct in the Red Room.

    Here is the list of senators facing suspensions before:

    1. FemiOkurounmu (Ogun Central) – 1999

    Senator Okurounmu was suspended after accused Senator of planning impeachment president Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. He was recalled after apologizing to the Senate.

    2. Global Joseph (Benue) – 2000

    In 2000, Senator Waku suggested that a military coup was preferable to a coup that allowed President Obasanjo to continue as a dictator. Due to its controversial nature, this claim led to his suspension.

    3. ArthurNzeribe (IMO, EIL delivery)-2002

    Senator Nzeribe was suspended indefinitely in November 2002, with 22 million fraud charges.

    4. Isah Mohammed (Central Niger) – 2004

    In October 2004, Senator Mohamed was suspended for two weeks after a physical attack on Senator Iyabo Anisulowo outside the National Assembly Hall. The dispute was reportedly related to the expenditure of the committee’s funds.

    5. AliNume (Borno South) – 2017

    Senator Ndume was suspended for six months in 2017 after calling for an investigation into then-Senate President Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye.

    6. ovie omo-agege (percentage point) –

    In 2018, Senator Omo-agege was suspended after opposing the election reordering bill. Despite his apology for his position, he sought court orders to prevent the Senate from suspending him, which led to his moratorium.

    7. AbdulNingi (Bauchi Central)-2024

    Senator Ningdi was suspended for three months in 2024, and the country’s National Assembly paid 3 trillion yuan in 2024.

    8. Natasha Akpoti-Idaghan (Central River)

    Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senate District, was suspended for six months on March 6, 2025 for alleged misconduct in the Red Room.
