Atticu’s alliance deals with defection*

Atiku Abubakar’s alliance returns to the president due to PDP’s defection.

Salihu Lukman said defection is not surprising due to the weakening of PDP status.
The opposition coalition is led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, his defection to Delta Governor Sheriff Oberevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and several progressive Congressional Congresses of the Democratic Democratic Democratic Party.
Mallam Salihu Lukman, a key stakeholder of the alliance and former national vice president of the APC, said the defection was not surprising.
“PDP is obviously a shadow of one’s own self,” Lukeman said.

He added that the league will not be distracted by defection and will continue to work on a merger before the 2027 presidential election.
Lukeman urged PDP governors and leaders to reconsider their position of not joining the coalition.
“We want to correct all the mistakes and shortcomings of the Buhari government to Asiwaju government. We hope to restore the aspirations of Nigerians by fostering leaders and a larger country that we will be proud of ourselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, chairman of the Osen State Assembly of the New Nigerian BJP, predicts that more and more people will abandon the PDP before the governor’s investigation.

However, the PDP rejected Odeyemi’s claim as “wishful thinking”.
“The only people leaving the party so far are those with narrow interests, those who expect his pride, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who relaxed and opened the state vault for his personal greed,” said Oladele Bamiji, director of media and publicity at PDP.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also responded to the defection, urging PDP members to focus on rebuilding the party. “Those who want to leave the PDP should now leave, let the rest of us who want to stay focused on rebuilding the party and refocus it on the role of viable opposition, which will provide a better option for the good people in Nigeria,” Saraki said.
PDP will lose my federal district in the next poll – Wole Oke
In related developments, Wole Oke, a member of the Oriade/Obokun federal constituency, recently abandoned the PDP, who predicted a huge election defeat in the state’s next election. “PDP won’t get 500 votes in ESA-OKE. Bring it to the bank,” Oke said.
The defectors sparked political adjustment ahead of the 2027 election, with observers pointing out that the opposition coalition is posing strong challenges for the dominant APC.
