Labor President Julius Abure criticized the party’s federal lawmakers for failing to make any financial contributions since their election in 2023.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos chapter on Friday, Abure also warned against creating parallel structures within the LP and stressed that the party must operate under a single unified structure.
“The fact is that they don’t respect political parties, it’s a fact that they don’t contribute to the political parties.”
“As I spoke with you today, we have not received a Cobo at the national level from the country elected to the National Assembly. The responsibility to participate in the party remains in touch with the leadership of the party. So far, we have six senators, about 30 members of the House and many members of the state.
“But none of these legislators contributed a dime to the party since they were elected in 2023, which would shock you. Let them walk away and ask other parties – those who are elected under their platform that fund the parties.
“Today, most of them want to control their local government and want us to hand over our constituencies to them, but they are not ready to work or work with the parties. Is that fair?”
Abure also urged members of the “Observation” movement to support the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, who is also urging members of the Labor Party.
