Super Hawks goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is reportedly facing a four-year ban on international football.
Udinese Shot-Stopper is accused of deliberately receiving a yellow card in a conflict with Lazio in the 64th minute of the Serie A in Udinese on March 11, 2024.
Italian football confirmed that an authority suspected that a suspicious gambling activity around Okoye received a yellow card, allegedly at 8/1 with odds of more than 120,000 euros. Okoye was investigated with three friends. He could face a lengthy ban as he was charged with fraud, not just irregular betting.
What sports fraud did Maduka Okoye commit?
Sports fraud is not open to negotiated settlements and beliefs are subject to compulsory penalties. The case has formally referred to Italy’s Disciplinary Committee, which means that a formal lawsuit is about to take place.
The 25-year-old joined Udinese from Watford in 2023, and over the past few years Nigerian supporters have criticized him for his poor performance between the Super Hawks’ sticks.
