Majority leader Donald Okugbe (PDP – Akoko-edo II) of the Edo State Capitol, and three other MPs rebelled on Wednesday for All Progressive Conference (APC).
Naija News Report other defectors include Bright spirit (PDP – Orhionmwon South II), Richard Edosa (PDP – Oredo West), and Sunday Ojezele (LP – Southeast).
Due to their rebellion, the APC now has 13 members with a majority in the House, while the PDP has been reduced to 11.
Acting State Chairman Jarret Tenebe hosted members at the APC Secretariat in Benin. They view internal cleavage and unresolved crises within the previous parties as the main reasons for the decision to change allegiance.
Edosa spoke on behalf of the organization, describing the move as a “definition moment” and expressed confidence in the leadership of the governor of Okpebholo on Monday. He said they are committed to working with the APC government to promote the development of the Edo country.
They were welcomed, and Tenebe praised their decision as “A bold step towards a bright future for the Edo country. ”
He assured them of equal rights and privileges within the party and stressed that their defections strengthened the collective determination of APC to improve governance, security and economic development in the state.
The incident ended with a symbolic APC broom handed over to defected lawmakers, marking their formal entry into the ruling party.
