Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has warned all Progressive Assembly (APC) to avoid understability in Osun State and urged all political actors to stick to legal processes rather than resort to self-help.
Speaking on Osogbo on Sunday, during the oath-in ceremony of the newly elected president of the local government representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governor’s Forum, stressing the importance of resolving disputes through the judiciary.
Naija News Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, called up his concerns about his concerns about political tensions in the state.
Avoid turning Osun into a battlefield – Makinde
Speaking about the gatherings, Makinde stressed that Osun must not become a political war zone due to avoidable controversy.
“Osun should not be turned into a battlefield on issues that the judiciary can solve,” He said.
He further reiterated the PDP’s commitment to governance and peace and urged the APC to stay away from destructive activities.
“We don’t want the Wild West. They should stay away from this group. We just want to bring dividends to our people in peace.” He said.
Makinde also warned that any attempt to undermine the legal process and pointed out that all political dissatisfaction must be handled through appropriate channels.
“No one should turn to self-help. Even if you have a court decision, there is a procedure. Let the process go through,” He suggested.
He further condemned the abuse of federal influence and pointed out that the rule of law must take priority over political power.
“You can’t because you have what you call the federal government and may have to spread the process. It’s a federal arrangement,” He added.
Call for peace and stability
Makinde urged the APC to allow peace to rule in Osun, noting that there are legal proceedings that can enforce court decisions without resorting to violations.
“If someone has a judgment, there is a process to enforce a court decision. It is illegal to resort to self-help,” He insisted.
Amid the growing political tensions in Osun, Makinde congratulated the new sworn in on the board of directors and encouraged them to focus on service delivery and grassroots development.
