Ondo State Police Command detectives arrested Elvis Mbekwe, a 40-year-old man, who allegedly defeated his 28-year-old girlfriend to D3ath after Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Mbekwe is accused of assaulting his lover Uchenna Akujobi, who punches his house with his fists and rides, eventually leading to her d3ath.
The incident allegedly stems from Mbekwe’s suspicion, whose lover is in a romantic relationship with a man who visits her on Valentine’s Day.
After being arrested, the suspect was arraigned on February 26, 2025, and then sat in the district court in Akure for murder.
Prosecutor Forashade Adeyemi informed the court that the defendants and most others committed crimes on February 14, 2025 at Gold Line Estate, Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji/Ile-Oluji/Oke-Oke-Igbo-Igbo Local Government Area.
Adeyemi claims that in the fateful days, the defendant illegally beat her girlfriend Uchenna’s death.
Prosecutors said the defendant asked the deceased to have a relationship with a man who often visits her in the apartment, even on Valentine’s Day.
She told the court that Mbekwe suspected his lover was having an affair with the man, and he was irritated, which led to a verbal war between the two.
“Defendant allegedly beat the dead with fists and riding horses during the melee,” she said.
The prosecutor said the crime violated Articles 316 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Law Act of 2006.
The defendant’s request was not made.
Mbekwe claimed in a police department statement that the deceased attacked him with broken glass.
Adeyemi prays that the court will return the defendant to any correctional center in the state to await the results of the recommendations from the State Department of Justice’s Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Judge RI Adelakin remanded the defendant back to Olokuta Correctional Centre when approving the prosecutor’s request, pending DPP’s advice.
The Magistrate’s Justice believes: “I am satisfied that the defendant’s prosecution in remand proves the possible cause because there is reasonable suspicion that the defendant’s involvement in the committee charged with the charge.
“He should therefore be remanded in the Olokuta Correctional Centre, and case files should be sent to the DPP office for advice.”
Adelakin adjourned the case until March 27, 2025.
