Manchester United reportedly made progress in pursuing Victor Osimhen, having initial talks with his representatives.
Foot Mercato confirmed that “the last few hours between the Nigerian striker’s entourage and Manchester United” indicated the beginning of formal discussions between the two sides.
Osimhen’s loan transfer to Galatasaray in the last transfer window, scoring 33 goals and providing eight assists in just 37 appearances in all games.
Foot Mercato reported that the 26-year-old striker was at two major destinations before the summer, Saudi Arabia and the Premier League caught the attention.
Al Hilal previously offered Victor Osimhen €50 million last summer, but chose to move to Türkiye. However, Saudi clubs are still interested in signing him.
The report said Neom, a garment supported by the Saudi Arabian project, is now monitoring the situation.
Victor Osimhen also reportedly prefers to move to the Premier League, where clubs can meet his high wage needs of €12 million a year. The salary requires limiting his potential destination to primarily British clubs.
“Honestly, England has the only league that can cover the incredible salary the players require,” Foot Mercato said, highlighting the financial appeal of the Premier League.
Manchester United is believed to lead the pursuit in the UK. The report said the Red Devils’ hierarchy was not satisfied with their current offensive choices and had shortlisted the roster of four players for the ninth role. Osimhen is excellent on the list along with Victor Gyökeres and Liam Delap, and Gyökeres are considered the top target, especially if United Secure Chame Cheast League qualifies through Europa League.
The report also added that Naples will require more than €75 million in fees, including bonuses, to release Osimhen. “It may be necessary to spend more than €75 million, including bonuses, to reward Osimhen with his departure from Naples,” Foot Mercato reported.
