Former Defense Minister Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma (retired) urged Nigerians to defend their bandits and criminals.
Speaking at a public event in Takum, Talaba State on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Danjuma said the recent Kllings in Benue, the plateau and other parts of Nigeria further proved that the government cannot rely solely on the government to protect citizens.
He said his warnings remain important amid the wave of insecurity around the country.
He said: “My warning from a few years ago is still as effective today as it was then. Nigerians must rise and defend themselves. We cannot continue to sit and watch bandits, terrorists and criminal gangs massacre our people, our people are under unrestricted inspections.”
Danjuma from Takum lamented that what he said the government was unable to provide enough security, stressing that communities have sometimes taken positive measures to protect their lives and property.
He added: “It is now clear that the government alone cannot protect us. We must stand up and defend ourselves, our families and our land before these criminals occupy the entire country.”
