A motorcycle rider in Seoul, South Korea was swallowed by a huge sewage puddle that suddenly opened on a fast road.
The 33-year-old man, identified by his last name park, was found dead by noon Tuesday, March 25 after 17 hours of overnight search work.
From the burr footage of a vehicle moving behind him, the cyclist hit a sewage puddle that suddenly opened on Monday afternoon, March 24.
Before the road collapsed, a white vehicle was driven in front of the bicycle and was almost swallowed by a sewage puddle. But the driver accelerated, causing the car to bounce back to the road.
Shocking dashboard footage also shows the white vehicle narrowly escape the horror.
The driver of the white vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
Emergency official Kim Chang Seob told the TV briefing that the motorcycle rider’s body was found lying in a subway tunnel 164 feet (50m) from the pit.
King said the man was found wearing a helmet and motorcycle boots, and rescuers found his Japanese-made motorcycle and cell phone before arriving at his body. Rescuers used excavators, shovels and other equipment to find him, King said.
A 65-foot (20m) wide and deep sewage puddle appears at a crossroad in the Ganwang area of Seoul.
The cause of the sewage puddle is under investigation.
Seoul Mayor OH Se-Hoon visited the site on Monday night and asked authorities to find out why the sewage puddles occurred and prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
The incident was captured by dashboard cameras, spreading and raising concerns about road safety. Despite the rescue efforts, the motorcycle has not survived.
