Motorist arrested for suspected kidnapping of female passenger

Onipanu department headquarters, Ogun State Police Department, arrested a ride-sharing driver, Olayemi Yusuf’M’ (30), for allegedly kidnapped a female passenger. The suspect was also beaten by an angry mob and is currently being detained by police at the beginning of the investigation.

The headquarters spokesman CSP Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, he said

”On March 24, 2025, about 1500 hours, officials received information about suspicious vehicles on Ohul Iloguebo Road, Ogun State. The quick police response led to the rescue of the victims, Kutrups Peaceful “F” (22 years old), located at 17 Fisher Street, Lagos Cement Bus Station.

Preliminary investigations show that the victim booked a ride through the online car service in Lekki to Lekki’s Freedom Way. However, on the road, the driver claimed his navigation system had malfunctioned and deviated from the expected route. He then suppressed the victim with two plastic tire clips and restrained her hands.

When they arrived at Ilogbo Road in Ota, the victims raised an alarm and attracted the attention of passersby, who were intervening and assaulting the suspect before police arrived at the scene.

Odutola mentioned that both the victim and the suspect were taken to the police station and the suspect was injured in a mob attack.

She mentioned that state police commissioner CP Lanre Ogunlowo asked the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and urged citizens to report suspicious activities to the authorities for proper investigation and legal action.
