With the couple’s 15th anniversary, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys are open to marrying.
The 46-year-old producer told Us Weekly that the secret of their lasting alliance is friendship, communication and choice “don’t yell at each other.”
He added that they never argued.
“Marriage is definitely a big word, but like your best friend,” Swizz said while discussing the partnership between his Mezcal brand, producer and Hard Rock International.
“Communication is there. We never argue. Since we were together, our children [have] Never seen us raising our voice [or] Never seen us yell. Never seen us curse each other. Why? Because of communication. ”
Swizz and Keys, 44, ended in July 2010 after the teenagers first met. Swizz explained that he and Keys shared their Egyptian son, 14, and Genesis, 10, “disagree with things” but chose to express their different views in a healthy way.
“When you yell at each other, no one is really listening. The yelling at each other,” Switz said, adding that he didn’t “own” the keys and she didn’t “own” him.
“People think they can own people. You can’t. It’s not the property you own. There’s one, right?” Sweetz explained. “So, we know very well about that. She is her own boss. I am my own boss. That’s how we make magic magic when we’re together. I think it helps because people start to become very territorial and make their partner property, which I think is the biggest mistake.”
In addition to the couple’s son, Swizz and Keys are also parents of Swizz’s eldest son, namely Nasir Prince Nasir, 24, Kasseem Jr., 18, and daughter Nicole, 16, from a previous relationship.
