Bode George, the renowned Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lamented that it is difficult for his children to find jobs in Nigeria due to the stigma attached to his name.
The former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party told Nigeria’s Info FM 99.3 program that the country was plagued by hunger and anger.
“Today in Nigeria there is hunger and anger everywhere,” George said.
He expressed concern over Nigerian youths, noting that many graduates were “drifting” without direction, while non-graduates were idle. “Graduates are wandering with no future and no hope; non-graduates have nothing to do,” he added.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish a special Youth Empowerment Fund to support both skilled and unskilled youths. “I suggest that Mr. President should set up a special fund to ensure that those who have not received any skills training can be empowered. And then provide microcredit to young graduates who want to do one business or another,” he said.
George also criticized the First Lady’s plan to build the National Library through public donations. “Recently, the First Lady announced that a national library would be built and donations would be needed. This fund should be made available by the President asking these people in the banks, those who donated N20 billion in two days, to provide this money, it will be public money and handle it with good management,” he said.
On a personal note, he revealed his children were rejected by employers because of his name. “The younger generation in this country, including my own children, they’ve graduated a long time ago and they’ve gone back and tried to get jobs and they can’t find jobs because their name is Bode George,” he said.
