NAPTIP intercepts 13 victims of trafficking on their way to Iraq for S3xual and labor exploitation

The State Agency for Banning Human Trafficking (NAPTIP) has intercepted 13 girls suspected of becoming human trafficking on their way to Baghdad, Iraq.

NAPTIP Press Officer Vincent Adekoye revealed this in a statement Tuesday, February 18, 2025, saying the action was carried out with the support of partners.

These girls, aged 19 to 39, were allegedly deceived and recruited by some unregistered labour recruiters who were considered between Nigeria and some Middle Eastern countries between Nigeria and some Middle Eastern countries. Agents of large-scale criminal labor recruitment gangs operating.

They were held shortly before heading to Iraq at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.

After some tips about the partner, the Iraqi bound girl intercepted was accompanied by some timid girls in the airport departure lounge, who noticed some unusual faces of their destination and immediately reminded the agency. .

NATTIP Director General Binta Adamu Bello, who spoke in the incident, witnessed her formal responsibility for leaving Abuja, Adamawa intercepted the first five girls traffickers at the airport, calling on parents and guardians to always be cautious about their children and The ward forged promise.

“I would like to point out that our actions are in line with the Human Trafficking (Controls of Organizations and Centres) Ordinance 2019, which statute allows NAPTIP to authorize NAPTIP to issue license certificates to all travel agencies or travel agencies as well as travellers for purpose. She said: “Educational Tours, Labor Recruitment, sports activities, culture, music segments or competitions and all organizations, shelters and houses that provide services are intended to restore the rehabilitation of trafficked persons. ”

“The case at hand is sad because these girls are deceived and recruited by unlicensed labor recruiters in Baghdad, and any of the constitutive authority of these labor recruiters in Nigeria is not known. This means that if anything happens to these girls, anything happens to them. ; We will not be able to do so; we will not be able to make labor without proof of any person, they also obtained a 60-day visa, but signed a 2-year labor agreement with them. Master and lose all legal rights, claim any requirement for them Legal salary.

“The survey shows that their tax owners will pay $250 per month, they will remit their 4-month salary to agents in Nigeria for four months and send another transfer to agents in Iraq. Huge amount.

“From the testimony of dozens of victims who have passed the same conditions, they never paid regularly as expected, maybe only four to five months for a contract term of 2 years. In fact, the main problem for the owner is when they ask for a salary hour.

“It is painful that although the unspecified number of victims seeks help to be rescued in those unstable, war-torn destination countries, these victims are happy to embark on a journey to the unknown.

“We are very worried about this situation, as some rescued people have recently returned home with life-threatening medical conditions, while others have escaped life-threatening wounds and eternal scars caused by the Master.

“We can’t close our eyes and have these people join the stats of stranded victims who will seek help on social media. We are also looking for unethical unregistered recruiters behind all of these situations.

“While sincerely appreciates the management of Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, especially the reference to the airport manager and their security personnel, officials from various airlines and sister law enforcement agencies have provided us with one aid or another form of Assistance, I hope the Director General said.
