The State Agency for Banning Human Trafficking (NAPTIP) announced that it has obtained more than 600 convictions and rescued more than 20,000 victims of human trafficking since its establishment in 2003.
The disclosure was conducted by commanders of Ganiu Aganran, Benin’s Zonal office, during a two-day awareness workshop for Edo law enforcement agencies.
According to Aganran, NAPTIP is tirelessly bringing traffickers to justice and supporting survivors.

He added: “NAPTIP’s approach combines intelligence-driven investigations, inter-agency collaboration, and victim support services to effectively combat trafficking.”
Professor Eric Okojie, speaking on the workshop’s goals, noted that most of the victims of trafficking are women, often sexually exploiting their traffickers when they seek greener pastures. .

“In 2020, the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (Drug Crime Energy) estimated that 67% of people who were trafficked due to sexual exploitation were women, while 46% of trafficking victims were women,” he said.
Justina Odunukwe, the national coordinator of the Women’s Dignity Committee, stressed that the workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of security personnel and human trafficking (hints).
“This will create a safer society where people can thrive without seeking a dangerous route to survival,” she said.
Since 2003, we have recovered over 17,000 victims of trafficking – NAPTIP
The State Agency for Banning Human Trafficking (NAPTIP) revealed that the agency had restored more than 17,000 trafficked Nigerians between 2003 and 2021.
