Senator Natasha Akpti-Udoahan announced plans to visit Kogi Central to celebrate despite the Kogi State government banning rallies and gatherings.
Senator Natasha, who is currently suspended by the Senate for clashes with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, announced plans to visit members of her constituency to celebrate Eid with them. However, on Monday, March 31, the state government announced a ban on gatherings and public gatherings, citing “reliable safety reports.”
National Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo said in a statement released that Kogi witnessed the Sallah celebrations of peace, but that some security threats threaten the peace of the country
He added that intelligence reports indicate that some people plan to “conduct some violent rally under the guise of political and religious incitement.” The Commissioner noted that the state government has directed that anyone entering Koge with security personnel must “get prior permission from the State Command’s order to deploy the service”.
“In Kogi Central, the intelligence we deal with pointed out that certain factors are planning to conduct some violent rally under the guise of political and religious incitement.
This is to create a platform for wanton destruction and collapse of law and order. These flashes of riots are exacerbating tensions in the state and threatening violations of public peace and security.
In view of this, the Kogi State Government immediately imposed a comprehensive ban on all forms of gatherings or public gatherings, which have the potential to undermine public peace.
Intelligence reports must make this decision, indicating that some are infiltrating the country under the guise of organizing gatherings, using fake security personnel to deceive trouble and undermine the safety of law-abiding citizens of our dear country.
The government recognizes citizens’ constitutional rights to gather and express themselves, but for the benefit of public safety, security considerations must be given priority.
Therefore, no individual, group or organization is allowed to hold any kind of gathering in the state until further notice. ”
Natasha’s media team responded to the development, refuting speculation about the possible cancellation of the visit, insisting it will go as planned.
“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s visit to Sallah in Kogi Central Senate District will be on schedule. Despite rumors circulating online, there is no official announcement in our office about the visit.”
