Kogi Central Senator recounted the incident on Friday, claiming the encounter took place in December, just the day before their respective birthdays.
“It all started with his birthday and my birthday because we were birthday companions. We were all in Akwa Ibom. At first we were at his home in Ikot Ekpene. Then we all went to his house in Uyo and he took my hand and walked around from a room showing me the beautiful interior.
“He went to this special living room and asked me if I liked his house. I certainly said, sir, every room is beautiful, beautiful smell. He said, now you are a senator and I will create time for us to create quality moments here. You will love it. At that time, I just quit because I didn’t understand what he meant,” she said.
Akpoti-uduaghan’s allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio came just days after the Senate’s nervous showdown, when Akpabio ordered her to be removed from the Chamber of Commerce.
Confrontation broke out after Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno told Akpoti-uduaghan that he refused to relocate to a new seat on Thursday, February 20, reassigned a new seat after two opposition senators’ rebellion.
Monguno, citing Senate orders 24 and 6, argued that the Senate president has the power to redistribute seats, and that lawmakers can only speak from designated positions. He insisted that Akpabio had the right to prevent senators from contributing to the debate so that they did not sit in the assigned place.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan objected under the 10th order, believing that her parliamentary privileges had been violated. As Akpabio ordered the officers to accompany her out, it was quickly dismissed, and her protests were quickly dismissed, escalating tension in the room.
