Senator Natasha Akpoti-uduaghan filed a defamation lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio after controversy over the reallocation of his Senate seats.
The report shows that Akpti-Udoahan opposes her seat relocation as opposition MPs defect to the majority, which leads to a confrontation between her and the Senate president.
On February 25, 2025, she filed a lawsuit in the Federal Capital High Court, naming the Senate President, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and senior legislative aide, and Senate President Mfon Patrick as the second defendant.
The case is marked CV/737/25 and claims that the defamatory statement was made by the Senate President and later posted on Facebook by his aides.
According to her attorney, Victor Giwa, the post in question is titled “Is Senate Natasha’s right to birth a local content committee?”, which contains statements that show that Akpoti-uduaghan believes her role as a member of parliament is simply about “Spread your face and wear transparent clothes to the room. ”
Giwa describes the position as defamatory, provocative and demeaning, believing that it has damaged her reputation among colleagues and the public.
“Declaring the sentence: “Mr. Kogi knows nothing about the legislative rules. She believes that being a MP is cheating on her face and wearing transparent clothes to the room in the first and second defendants The prompt used and written by the third defendant is defamatory and intended to arouse public opprobrium and dissatisfaction with the claimant.. ”
In addition to seeking a permanent injunction to prevent further defamatory statements from her by the defendant and his colleagues, she also demanded general compensation of 100 billion guilds and demanded litigation costs of 300 million guilds.
“Payment of N100 million sums as general damages orders. Pay N300,000,000 as an order for litigation costs, her lawsuit says.
