The Nigerian Labor Party (LP) with a rocking internal crisis deepened Senator Nenadi Usman, chairman of the party’s National Careers Committee, on Wednesday, May 7, who initiated a disciplinary process against former president Julius Abure, who she called a “imposter”.
Usman announced at a press conference in Abuja that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) under her leadership released a 24-hour final atum to explain why disciplinary measures should not be taken.
The move comes after growing tensions within the party, which has caused damage to leadership disputes, corruption allegations and legal struggles since the 2023 general election.
Usman accused the infringement of attempts to smear Labor and its current leaders rather than responding to multiple allegations of corruption and forgery against him.
“The former chairman should use his time to solve the problems before him, rather than continue to destroy the party and its leaders,” she said.
The crisis highlighted factional rifts within the LP and raised concerns about its stability and cohesion ahead of the upcoming election.
