The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) condemned the racist abuse of Super Hawks defender Calvin Bassey during Sunday’s FA Cup match against Manchester United.
Bassey and Bruno Fernandes later equalised scored at Old Trafford, but West London Club won the quarter-finals position after a 4-3 win.
His outstanding performance in the FA Cup clash was damaging by some supporters’ racist comments on social media accounts.
Now, this has sparked a strong reaction from NFF through posts on its official X account.
The post reads: “The NFF is firmly opposed to all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports Calvin Bassey in the face of these unacceptable actions.”
“We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all players on the field and on the occasion. Calvin has our unwavering support and we will continue to fight racism in football and society.”
