Nicki Minaj to speak at UN event on alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria
Popular American rapper Nicki Minaj will speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, November 18, focusing on the alleged genocide of Christians in Nigeria.
The artist will appear alongside U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz and Alex Bruesewitz, adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump and convener of the event.
Speakers are expected to provide insight into the persecution of Christians in Nigeria — a problem both described as genocide by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) — and the ongoing efforts of the Trump administration to address it.
Ahead of the event, the Trump administration praised Minaj for using her considerable influence to raise awareness. Ambassador Walz said:
“Not only is @NICKIMINAJ arguably the greatest female recording artist, she is also a principled person who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice. I am grateful that she has used her massive platform to shine a spotlight on atrocities against Christians in Nigeria, and I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the president and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters.”
Mina responded to the comments, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity:
“I’m grateful to have been given such a significant opportunity. I don’t take it for granted. It means more than you can imagine. Barbz (her fans) and I will never back down from injustice. We have been given the power to make an impact by God. There has to be a bigger purpose.”
