The federal government of Nigeria has proposed a stricter immigration policy to address the country’s visa overdue issue.
Home Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said that although Nigeria’s visa policy has not been lifted, the government is ready to take a firm stance on visa violations.

Tunji-Ojo announced that foreigners who exceed their visa duration will face a five-year entry ban, while those who stay illegally in the country will be banned from reentering Nigeria for 10 years.
Speaking on Arise TV, Tunji-ojo said: “If you avoid using a Nigerian visa for three months, we will ban you for five years. If you are overdue for one year, we will ban you for ten years.”

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili accused the National Assembly of suspiciously placing its rules above the Nigerian constitution and laws.
