Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency, not in the country, but what he calls a “disastrous president.”
Atiku lamented insecurity over the entire Nigeria, criticizing President Tinob for failing to return from France amid widespread violence and national unrest. He noted that the re-killing of the plateau and Benue states, as well as the revival of Boko Haram activities, accused the president of serious negligence and negligence.
“When President Tinob returns from his latest trip, he will spend an astonishing 59 days in France since taking office,” Attiku said in a statement released by his media aide Paul Ibe.
“At a time when this country is bleeding and citizens live in fear, the president is abroad under the guise of a ‘work visit’. If this announcement was a day ago, many Nigerians would see it as an April joke, but it is not a prank – it is another insult to a country in crisis.”
Atiku criticized what he said was the government’s attempt to spin the trip other than the attempt, questioning the president’s priorities and the use of public funds.
He added: “What kind of leaders borrow billions of dollars just to waste resources scarce in vanity travel abroad? It’s not only irresponsible, but also contemptuous.”
The former presidential candidate also highlighted the horrible situation in the area: more than 100 people died on the plateau, bloodshed was restored in Benue, Boko Haram took back territory and worsened poverty and insecurity across the country.
“It’s no longer just leadership poor. It’s losing responsibility on a catastrophic scale,” he said. “A leader with empathy and patriotism will immediately cut his itinerary. Governance is coming, especially in times of crisis.”
Atiku argued that the so-called “work visit” was easily conducted from Lagos, even Iragbiji, and accused Tinubu of abandoning his country when the edge was shaking.
“Nigeria is in a state of emergency. Not the politically-made parties declared in the River State – it’s a national collapse. So the real question is: When will Tinubu declare an emergency for his own disastrous presidency?”
