Former Foreign Minister Major General Ike Nwachukwu (RTD) called for a reorganization of Nigeria for development.
Naija News Report Nwachukwu called on the 14th Chief Emeka Anyaoku A lecture series on Good Governance in Enugu on Tuesday, with the theme of “The Urgent of Good Governance: Nigeria’s Global Comparison Point”.
The former Foreign Minister chaired the event, stressing that Nigeria must be a proper federation that allows state autonomy to reach people at the grassroots level.
Nwachukwu said states must be allowed to take charge of the mineral deposits they develop.
He further called on the federal government to commit to the realization of state policing.
“I have long advocated for the reorganization of Nigeria as a proper federation that allows state autonomy and brings people closer to the people.
“It should also allow states to access their development minerals and human resources.
“I represent respect for the rule of law and require straightforward and independent judiciary, more effective and responsive military, police and intelligence services.
“I also represent the establishment of state police and local policing for our community. Most importantly, a school system that allows relevant human resources development,He said.
In addition, the former permanent representative of Nigeria, the United Nations, Professor Ibraham Gambari, He was a guest speaker and said a fundamental reorganization of the Nigerian federal arrangements needed to address its many challenges.
According to Gambari, the restructuring must involve litigation that leads the recruitment process, treating the state as security, unity, equal citizenship, a new elite consensus, a complete overhaul, a comprehensive overhaul of the party and a more focused guarantee of constitutionalism.
