The federal government has suspended two personnel from the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCO) in an attempt to purchase international passports for prisoners. The suspension was announced in a statement by the public relations officer of the Nigerian Correctional Institution in NCO, Umar Abubakar. Correction Vice President Abubakar described the incident as “misconduct detected through automatic passport application and other overall reforms within the Nigerian Immigration Bureau”. He also said that the discovery of misconduct was a result of inter-agency cooperation in the Ministry of the Interior.

Abubakar explained that the incident happened two weeks ago, adding that it was a contradiction between established rules and procedures and therefore became unacceptable and unacceptable. Referring to the publication on the incident, Abubakar said, “The necessary disciplinary measures were taken, including the suspension of two correctional personnel, were involved in the incident by the Civil Defense, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Services Commission (CDCFIB), chaired by the internally respected interior minister Dr. Olubumni Tunji-ojo.” “Corrections Director (CGC) Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche reiterated his commitment to discipline, transparency and professionalism for all custody centres nationwide.

“The department clearly states that anyone who finds engaging in misconduct, corruption or vandalism will show a system’s way out,” he said. The service remains committed to its security custody, humane treatment and prisoner reforms, in line with global best practices.
