The Nigerian Labor Conference (NLC) has successfully negotiated a proposed 50% telecommunications tariff increase to 35%.
This development follows a meeting between government representatives and the NLC held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The meeting began around 4 p.m. and ended around 7 p.m., sources said, with NLC delegates insisting that tariffs must be withdrawn.

After a tremendous pressure, the government and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) agreed to reduce it by 15%.
Despite an earlier agreement with the federal government and the NCC, the NLC was earlier angry at the escalation of tariffs by telecom companies.
“If telecom companies fail to restore old tariffs by the end of February 2025, the overall closure of national operations will begin on March 1, 2025,” NLC said in a communiqué.

The communique was signed by President and Secretary General of Congress Joe Ajaero and Emma Ugboaja, respectively, to direct the NLC State Council and the Industrial Union branches to immediately begin their members and their judicial system to begin immediately on their members and their judicial system, respectively.
