Nigeria’s Afrobeats star Michael Adebayo Olayinka (commonly known as Ruger) has revealed the grim reality of the country’s music industry.
In a recent interview with Stanley, a media personality club Crooner revealed that true friendships between artists are rare because most relationships are driven by commercial interests.
Ruger shared that one of the biggest lessons he learned in his career is that trust is a luxury in the music industry. According to him, at best, artists may have one or two real friends who really want to see them succeed and stand by them during tough times.
“One thing I wish I knew before was that no one was a friend in your industry. What you can have the best are two real friends who stand by you and want to see you grow. Even if it’s not good, they’re with you and make sure you’re good, He said.
The singer further advised other artists not to feel too comfortable with being famous or to think loyalty brings popularity. Ruger stressed that most people can currently reap what they can reap intimate relationships and when the gains dry up, they will disappear without hesitation.
“Everything is business. No one cares. Just knowing that everything is business. They are walking with you because you can offer it at that time. He added.
“No one is a friend in your industry.”
