NRC says Warri-Itakpe train service will resume on April 30

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced it will suspend the suspension on April 10 due to multiple technical issues, including engine failure, which will resume Warri-Itakpe train service on April 30.

In a statement released on Monday, April 28, NRC Acting Deputy Director Callistus Unyimadu said engineers worked hard to solve problems, improve operational capabilities and improve overall service delivery.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) hopes to inform the public that the service will resume on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 after the suspension of Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) on April 10, 2025 due to technical and operational challenges, among which major engine failures,” the statement said.

NRC management, led by Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director and CEO, apologizes to passengers, stakeholders and the public in an attempt to cause damage during the suspension. “NRC engineers work hard to correct problems, enhance operational capabilities and improve service delivery,” the company said.

According to the NRC, the Warri-Itakpe train service will run six days a week; the track and rolling stock will be maintained starting May 1 from Monday to Wednesday to Friday to Sunday, and Thursday.

The company confirmed that passengers who chose to refund during the suspension have been fully refunded, while those who choose to wait can use the NRC electronic ticketing platform to re-estimate their tickets on any preferred travel day.

“To help you, please call our ticketing line on 0903 788 0657,” said the NRC.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by patience, support and cooperation that has been brought to our respected customers and stakeholders,” the statement continued.

NRC assured its customers and stakeholders that as an operating resume, enhanced and more reliable service delivery.
