NUC also suspended further processing of inactive applications and introduced processing fees for review.
The National University Committee (NUC) announced that the application fees for new private universities in Nigeria have increased significantly.
According to a memorandum issued by NUC Executive Secretary Abdullahi Ribadu, the application fee has been increased from N5M to 25m.
The committee explained that the decision was part of the decision to relocate private Nigerian universities to better meet citizens’ needs.

The NUC also identified guidelines for establishing private universities need to be reviewed to ensure they are capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
As part of the new guidelines, NUC suspended applications that further deal with inactive, including applications that did not make progress on its application or submit to the Commission for more than two years of private open universities.
The committee also filed a handling fee for the review to the application.
NUC Executive Secretary Abubakar Abdulrasheed resigns
Abubakar Abdulrasheed, Executive Secretary of the National University Committee (NUC), announced his resignation from the committee.
Abdulrasheed made the announcement on Monday at the commission’s headquarters, while approving the issuance of a temporary license to Kabba Kabba University.
