The Nigerian Oil and Gas Workers Alliance (Nupeng) and the Nigerian Oil and Gas Senior Staff Association (Pengshan) expressed concerns about the NNPCL decision to recruit external employees.
The union opposed recruiting senior executives from outside the company, citing that it would deny career development opportunities for internal staff.
In a letter dated April 4, and calling Nupeng and Pengassan, the chief human resources officer of NNPC, wrote: “We cannot accept, accommodate or support senior and managers outside of NNPC Limited to recruit senior and managers and should immediately stop any plans in that direction.”
The letter was signed by Pengassan Amaoge Chukwudi and Chairman Solomon Orieji; and Nupeng’s GEC Secretary Paulosa Paulosa, whose chairman Baba Kaumi.

The union believes that NNPCL is home to thousands of experienced, competent and dedicated Nigerian professionals in various fields.

“Denying their career development opportunities and ignoring their opportunities to support external recruitment is serious injustice and waste, which will also undermine the steady progress of the company in improving profitability and efficiency,” they said.
The union warns that if their concerns are ignored, it could lead to industrial turmoil, including all shutdown operations.
“If this warning is ignored, we cannot guarantee the continuation of industrial harmony within NNPC Co., Ltd.”
